Man From Springfield Charged After Police Discover Loaded Firearm In Fanny Pack

A Western Mass man has been charged after police discovered a loaded large-capacity firearm in a fanny pack during a traffic stop.

Hampden County resident Anthony Gonzalez, age 19, of Springfield, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 23, by Springfield Police during a traffic stop.

According to Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police, Gonzalez was arrested after detectives received information that he was in possession of a firearm. 

 Detectives located a car Gonzalez was traveling in and conducted a traffic stop on the 400 block of Bay Street as it was leaving Oak Grove Cemetery, Walsh said.

The four occupants of the car were detained pending an investigation. Detectives located a loaded large-capacity firearm in a fanny pack on the front passenger floorboard where Gonzalez had been sitting, he added.

Gonzalez was charged with carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm without a license and carrying a firearm without a license.
